Orbis Macau launched its annual fundraising campaign Action for Sight yesterday at Kiang Wu Nursing College stressing the importance of paediatric sight-saving to mark today’s World Sight Day.
Realising that some children may have difficulty in verbalising their discomforts, the organisation provided information on how parents and caretakers can observe their children and look out for symptoms of eye diseases. Macau Orbis Director of Development Vivian Lo Pou San said at the event it was vital for children not to miss the “golden time” for treatment, generally under the age of eight, or they could lose their eyesight permanently.
At the event, Orbis asked the organisation’s Communications Manager Celia Yeung Kit-yi from Hong Kong and Staff Nurse Leonardo Mercado from the Philippines to share their experiences of working with Orbis. Having joined the organisation 20 years ago, Mercado is the longest-serving member of the Orbis crew.
