Studio City opened its Phase 2 hotel “Epic Tower” yesterday, when the resort operator also launched its Studio City Indoor Water Park.

Chairman and CEO of Melco Resorts & Entertainment Lawrence Ho Yau Lung told reporters on the sidelines of the event that the Phase 2 construction has cost US$1.2 billion (9.7 billion patacas) in investment, with non-gaming attractions accounting for more than 90 percent of the total cost.

Ho also said that his company will continue to complement Macau’s development with new non-gaming features to attract more international visitors.

The aqua-park is slated to open on April 28.

The launching ceremony of the indoor water park was held yesterday afternoon at Studio City in Cotai. The 10,000-square-metre indoor water park features 16 water attractions, seven water slides, one water roller coaster, one indoor-outdoor surfing simulator, two wave pools and a 250-metre-long action river called Starlight Rapids.

Ho, the son of Macau’s late gaming mogul Stanley Ho Hung Sun, said that the Studio City Indoor Water Park was the largest of its kind in Asia.

The connecting-outdoor indoor Water Park is scheduled to open on April 28 and will be open all year round, bringing the combined area of the indoor and outdoor water parks to 26,000 square metres.

Ho underlined that with the relaxation of anti-pandemic measures and the increased convenience of entry permit and visa processing for visitors to Macau, visitors to Melco have increased significantly, adding he hoped that the Chinese mainland’s Labour Day “Golden Week” in the first week of May will result in even more visitors than during this weekend’s Easter holiday (which is not a public holiday in the mainland and Taiwan).

Ho said that Melco International, which posted a loss of HK$5.1 billion last year, was on track to “stop losing money” this year.
