Two non-resident workers (NRWs) have been arrested separately for theft, one for stealing two bottles of white wine and the other a mobile phone she found on the street, according to separate Public Security Police (PSP) statements on Sunday.

According to the statement, a shopkeeper recently reported to the police that two bottles of white wine had been stolen. Police made use of their citywide CCTV surveillance system and identified the suspect as a male NRW in his fifties and arrested him last Tuesday in the Zone A land reclamation area.

In the second case, a resident told police that he or she had accidentally left his or her smartphone worth 9,000 patacas behind while sorting out his or her belongings in Rua Três do Bairro Vá Tai earlier this month, the statement noted, adding that when he or she came back for it later it was gone.

Police officers located a female suspect, an NRW in her forties, through nearby surveillance systems and intercepted her near the Horta da Mitra neighbourhood last Tuesday. Under questioning, the suspect admitted to having picked up the phone, and the police retrieved the phone in her possession.

The two suspects, whose nationalities and surnames were not released, have been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing theft and theft-by-finding charges, respectively, the statements said.
