The Monetary Authority of Macau (AMCM) said in a statement yesterday that online registration for the exchange of Tiger and Rabbit Zodiac banknotes and XXIV Olympic Winter Games banknotes will start from Monday at 9 a.m. through May 12 at 6 p.m.
The statement noted that the tentative exchange quantity for the zodiac banknotes of each issuing bank – BNU and BOC – is 10 notes, with a total of 40 notes of the two types of zodiac banknotes from the two issuing banks. Meanwhile, the tentative exchange quantity for the winter games banknotes previously issued by Bank of China (BOC) is one.
According to the statement, each Macau resident can conduct a single registration for the exchange of 40 of the two types of zodiac banknotes and one of the winter games banknotes. There will be “no provision for the separate exchange of any one type of note”.
The statement added that the actual quantity to be exchanged may be adjusted based on the final number of registrants, which will be announced at the end of the registration period.
Macau ID card holders can conduct a one-time online registration through the authority’s website. They can also log into the registration system for their confirmed registration details, the statement said.
The exchange period, the statement underlined is from May 22 to August 11, with exchange locations at selected bank branches by BOC, BNU and ICBC, among others.
Registrants should take with them their Macau ID and required funds, and exchange the notes at their preferred location on their chosen date.
For authorised representatives, they will need to take their ID and submit the following signed documents: the representative’s photocopy of their identity document; the registrant’s Macao ID photocopy card bearing his or her signature; and an authorisation form downloaded from AMCM’s website signed by the registrant or by presenting the registrant’s original Macau ID card (BIR).
Assistance for seniors is provided at designated BOC and BNU branches, the statement noted. Enquiries can be made by calling 2856 5071 or 2856 5072 during business hours, while more details are available at https://registration.amcm.gov.mo/banknotes/terms_pt.html.
