The Transport Bureau (DSAT) said in a statement yesterday that it “solemnly condemns” any violent behaviour by passengers against bus drivers, adding that it will “fully cooperate” with any police investigation of such cases.

According to the statement, at about 5 p.m. yesterday, at the bus stop of Hotel Lisboa, a passenger got into an argument with a TCM (Sociedade de Transportes Colectivos de Macau) bus driver over a fare issue, during which the passenger pushed the driver, who had got off the bus, to the ground, injuring him.

The statement noted that the bureau has instructed the public bus service provider to take legal action against the offending passenger.

The bureau reaffirmed that under no circumstances should passengers disturb drivers while on duty, so as not to endanger the safety of all passengers on the bus.

The statement underlined that all bus drivers shoulder the responsibility of protecting the safety of everyone on the bus, and therefore, they should be respected during their work, and their personal safety must be guaranteed.
