A male non-resident worker (NRW) from the mainland has been arrested for assisting two overstayers to rent a hotel guestroom, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Cheong Heon Fan said during a press conference yesterday.
The 33-year-old NRW surnamed Shan is a cleaner. The two overstayers, both aged 32, are a male surnamed Wang and a female surnamed Chen. Wang had overstayed since last August while Chen since February this year.
According to Cheong, the police received a report on Thursday of a money dispute and “emotional conflict” between Wang and Chen in a hotel room in Zape. Police officers arrived on the scene and found that both were overstayers who had met at a casino earlier this month. Wang, who had rented the hotel room with the aid of Shan, invited Chen to stay with him.
Shan was arrested on Thursday when he entered Macau through the Qingmao checkpoint. He admitted to assisting Wang, who he also had met in a casino, in the renting of the hotel room for their illegal stay.
Shan has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a charge of aiding and abetting, according to Cheong.
Overstayers are routinely deported and banned from entering Macau for a period of time.
