Japanese contemporary artist Ogihara Fuka is showcasing a series of 35 works in “Life is but a Dream” at the Humarish Club in Lisboeta Macau H853 Fun Factory.

The exhibition is jointly presented by 294 Inc. from Tokyo and the Humarish Club, and displays a series of paintings and drawings from the artist’s recent exhibitions and studies.

Traditional Chinese painting is at the exhibition’s core, the statement noted, with Fuka’s work integrating Southern Dynasty Song paintings with “modern girls”, symbolising “fusion”. The statement added that the “little fairy-looking girls” in the works represent a bridge between the past and present.

Fuka’s work also symbolises humans as independent individuals integrated in nature and the universe’s will, which opens a “unique and conceptual surreal window” for viewers, the statement said. Themed “boundary”, the works aim to explore and integrate into the state of “Oriental aesthetic consciousness” in her creation, blending different boundaries in her paintings.

The statement quoted Fuka as saying that “we stand on the culture created by classical paintings”, adding that she believes “in her mission to study Japanese painting and history, so as to reunderstand her culture and clarify her own modern value standards, and create things that can be reinterpreted in contemporary culture and life”.

The statement added that Fuka wants to create a “new view” of painting which bridges the past and present, integrates the internal and external, as well as transcending various boundaries.

Born in Tokyo in 1997, the statement noted that Fuka graduated from the Kyoto City University of Arts. She is currently studying in Hangzhou, the capital city of Zhejiang province, as a master’s student in the School of Fine Arts of the China Academy of Art.

The exhibition runs through Tuesday. The venue is open from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. daily. Admission is free.
