Three suspected members of a Hong Kong gang, aged 17,19 and 58, were arrested on Wednesday for their involvement in drug trafficking in Macau, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Chong Kam Leong said during a special press conference yesterday.
According to Chong, having received intelligence that a Hong Kong gang had assigned teenagers to sell drugs in Macau’s nightclubs in Zape, the Judiciary Police launched a follow-up investigation, which identified two Hong Kong suspects surnamed Ho, 17, and Lo, 19, so PJ officers put them under surveillance.
Chong pointed out that the officers arrested Ho at noon on Wednesday outside a hotel in Zape where he and Lo were staying, and intercepted Lo in their guestroom.
Under questioning, Ho admitted to receiving a daily wage of HK$2,000 to sell drugs in Macau’s nightclubs under the supervision of Lo, Chong said, adding that Ho also revealed the identify of a Hong Kong lorry driver, surnamed Ng, 58, who helped smuggle the drugs into Macau.
Lo refused to cooperate with the police, Chong said, adding the Judiciary Police believed that the gang had been selling drugs in Macau for about a month. On this occasion, Ho and Lo had spent a week in Macau.
Based on Ho’s confession, according to Chong, PJ officers arrested Ng in the wee hours of yesterday in Zape. He told the police that he had been promised a payment of HK$7,000 for assisting the gang to smuggle drugs into Macau each time.
In the operation, the police seized 32.57 grammes of ketamine, 3.33 grammes of methamphetamine (aka ice), 7.31 grammes of cocaine, and 3.78 grammes of “unknown” power, with a total street value of about 100,000 patacas.
Chong pointed out that the trio tested positive for drugs.
The trio were transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) yesterday, facing charges of drug trafficking and drug abuse, Chong said.
The Judiciary Police are continuing their investigation, according to Chong.
