A 68-year-old local man was arrested on Thursday at his home in the northern district for sexually abusing and attacking his six-year-old daughter, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Chong Kam Leong said during a regular press conference on Friday.
Chong said that the suspect surnamed Lai has been unemployed since 2018.
According to Chong, the Judiciary Police received a report from the girl’s female teacher on Thursday afternoon through a police-school liaison mechanism that she suspected that the girl, who was found with leg injuries while she was in school, had been sexually assaulted and was the victim of domestic violence.
Chong said the girl told the police that her father had beaten and slapped her on at least 10 occasions over discipline issues, adding that since last year, Lai had required his daughter on several occasions to lie on a bed while his wife, who is in her forties, was at work, and reached into the girl’s clothes to touch and kiss her.
Chong pointed out that even though the girl kept refusing and resisting her father, Lai ignored her begging and continued to abuse her.
Chong said that because of her young age, the victim, who is a Primary One student, did not know how to tell her mother what had happened, so that the case wasn’t reported to the police until the teacher discovered it.
According to Chong, Lai refused to cooperate with the police.
Lai has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing charges of charge sex abuse and bodily harm.
