Two senior citizens sustained slight burns after a gas stove in their home had a flashover when they were cooking in the kitchen last night, the Fire Services Bureau (CB) said in a statement.
The accident occurred at around 7 p.m. in their home in Block 9 of the Kuong Wa residential estate in Areia Preta district.
The two seniors, an 82-year-old man and a 63-year-old woman, were rushed to the public Conde de São Januário Hospital Centre for treatment.
Both were in a stable condition last night.
The statement said that after an initial examination, technicians of a liquified petroleum gas (LPG) company concluded that the accident was caused by improper hose connection between the stove and the cylinder.
