A mainland woman has been arrested for stealing HK$110,000 worth of chips from a man who invited her to stay in his hotel room overnight, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Leng Kam Lon said in a regular press conference yesterday.

The 26-year-old suspect surnamed Chen told the police that she’s a businesswoman.

According to Leng, the male victim in his forties met Chen during his trip to Macau on Friday and they went to gamble in a Cotai casino together, after which Chen told him that she didn’t have anywhere to stay and he invited her to stay with him.

The next morning, the male victim awoke to find that Chen had disappeared, along with HK$110,000 worth of chips he had in the room. The victim reported the case to the police.

Police officers identified Chen and located her through the citywide CCTV system at a hotel in the city centre on Sunday, and seized HK$24,000 worth of chips from her. Chen denied that she had taken the chips.

Chen was transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) yesterday, facing a charge of aggravated theft, according to Leng.
