The Sports Bureau’s (ID) Sports Development Department Chief Chao Kuok Wai said at a press conference at the ID headquarters in Zape yesterday that with the aim of encouraging residents to actively participate in different recreational and sports activities in their spare time, and also to develop the habit of doing exercise regularly, its annual “May Day Hac Sa Beach Summer Recreation and Sports Activities” event will take place from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. next Monday in Hac Sa Beach Park in Coloane.

The event, which is co-organised by the Sports Bureau, Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) and Marine and Water Bureau (DSAMA), in conjunction with the Macau Football Association, Volleyball Association of Macau, Macau China Handball General Association and Macau Sailing Association, comprises three ball games, namely football, handball and volleyball, as well as a sandcastle competition and water activities.

Chao said that his bureau will pay close attention to weather changes and, if needed, adjust the activities. He pointed out that the event has been held for many years and has been “well received” by the public.

According to Chao, a small-scale competitive obstacle course will also be set up by the associations this year, hoping to attract more residents to participate in the event.

Meanwhile, Chao announced in a separate press conference yesterday that his bureau has joined hands with the Public Administration and Civil Service Bureau (SAFP) to co-host a sport competition for government entities from next month through June, with a total of nine multi-sport events including ball games, track and field, and swimming, hoping to encourage and cultivate the habit of regular exercise among civil servants, strengthen their sense of belonging to their departments and boost morale and productiveness.
