The Public Security Police (PSP) arrested three mainland men last Thursday in Vasco da Gama Park for attempting to resell tickets to the “World Table Tennis (WTT) Champions Macao” competition, PSP spokesman Lam Keong said during a regular press conference yesterday.
The four-day WTT contest ended on Sunday.
According to Lam, the three suspects, aged 53, 55 and 62, are surnamed Ma, Liang and Liu respectively.
Lam said that the Public Security Police received a report from a Sports Bureau (ID) official at 1 p.m. last Thursday they suspected that the trio were reselling tickets for the competition that day to passers-by in Vasco da Gama Park, adding that they also saw someone buying a ticket from the trio through an electronic payment system and then enter the stadium with the ticket to watch the game.
PSP officers arrived at the scene where they intercepted the trio and found five tickets valued at 500 patacas each on Ma, one valued at 300 patacas on Liu and three free tickets on Liang, according to Lam.
Under questioning, Ma admitted that he had “attempted” to resell the tickets at a higher price than the face value, while Liang and Liu denied committing the crime, Lam said, adding that with the permission of the trio, PSP officers checked their mobile phones, and found conversation records about WTT ticket prices.
The three suspects have been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing ticket scalping charges.
