A male non-resident worker from the mainland died yesterday after he was covered by sand in a sand silo at a cement plant in Coloane.
According to a statement from the Judiciary Police (PJ), the 44-year-old worker, surnamed Yang, was checking the moving parts at the bottom of the sand silo which had jammed. While Yang was at the bottom of the silo, sand suddenly poured down burying him, at 10:15 a.m. yesterday.
According to the Fire Services Bureau (CB), because there was a block at the bottom of the silo, Yang went in to check and tried to remove the blockage.
