Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng (left) shakes hands with Helena König, deputy secretary general for Economic and Global Issues for the European External Action Service (EEAS) of the European Union in Brussels earlier this week. According to a statement by the Macau Government Information Bureau (GCS) yesterday, Ho and König “exchanged views on topics including the strengthening of trade cooperation between Macau and the EU, and post-pandemic economic recovery.” Ho also briefed König on Macau’s current situation and development plans. Pointing out that the EU is Macau’s second-largest trading partner, Ho urged EU member states to seek business opportunities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area (GBA) and Guangdong-Macau In-depth Cooperation Zone (ICZ) in Hengqin. The statement noted that König described the meeting as productive. Meanwhile, Ho and his entourage returned from their nine-day, three-nation (Portugal, Luxembourg, Belgium/EU headquarters) via Hong Kong last night. Ho started his trip in Portugal on April 19. It was Ho’s first post-pandemic overseas trip. A GCS statement last night said that the visit achieved its expected results by strengthening Macau’s friendship and cooperation opportunities with the three countries and the 27-nation EU. – Caption: Staff Reporter – Photo: GCS
