The 10-pataca Orbis Raffle Tickets for its annual “Orbis Raffle Charity Sale” are available from today through June 30, while the event’s lucky draw and the announcement of its winners are slated for July 5 and July 10 respectively, according to a statement yesterday from Orbis Macau.
The statement noted that the charity sale is among Orbis Macau’s annual key campaigns “dedicated towards raising vital funds for the global paediatric sight-saving projects of Orbis”.
Orbis, with its partners and Volunteer Faculty, directs efforts to protect the long-term eye health of “children and adolescents living in low- to middle income countries through paediatric vision saving programmes and sustainable training to build the capacity of local eye care teams to improve the quality of eye care in under-resourced communities”, according to the statement.
The statement detailed the story of a young girl named Liyat from Ethiopia, who had strabismus soon after birth, which can lead to permanent damage and blindness if not treated early. Her condition worsened over the years and she was unable to receive the necessary help.
According to Wikipedia, strabismus is a vision disorder in which the eyes do not properly align with each other when looking at an object. The eye that is pointed at an object can alternate.
The statement noted that with Orbis’ training programmes conducted in Ethiopia at a local hospital near her hometown, Liyat was able to receive surgery that corrected her eyes. She and her family, the statement said, were very grateful to not have to live with the uncertainties brought on by such ailments, hoping that more children can benefit from Orbis’ paediatric programmes.
The statement underlined that by supporting the event, visually impaired children can be offered a future of healthy sight and present them with the opportunity to “thrive and excel in life” and therefore contribute to their communities.
The statement added that with the support of its Gift Sponsors, its Prize List is valued at over 425,000 patacas and is made up of 95 prizes including luxury hotel experiences and round-trip air tickets.
