A mainland man was arrested on Sunday for stealing a mobile phone that he found in a casino-hotel resort toilet in Cotai, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Lam Keong said during a regular press conference on Wednesday.
Lam said that the 30-year-old suspect, surnamed Li, holds a valid mainland travel permit.
A man reported to the Public Security Police on Saturday he suspected that someone had stolen his mobile phone, which he had left in a casino-hotel resort toilet, adding that he had called his phone number once he realised it was missing, but it was turned off. The victim said that the phone was worth 11,000 patacas, according to Lam.
After scrutinising the city’s CCTV system, PSP officers identified Li as the suspect, and arrested him on Sunday at another casino-hotel resort in Cotai, Lam said, adding that under questioning Li admitted that after picking up the victim’s mobile phone, he sold it to a recycling shop in the mainland for 1,600 yuan.
Li has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a theft-by-finding charge, according to Lam.
