Macau’s 126 hotels (including inns) welcomed 972,000 guests last month, a year-on-year growth of 164.4 percent, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) announced yesterday.
According to a DSEC statement, guests from mainland China (694,000), Hong Kong (186,000) and Taiwan (13,000) leapt by 156.9 percent, 933,7 percent and 478.4 percent respectively. Tourists from the three Chinese regions accounted for 91.8 percent of the total number of hotel guests last month.
However, the number of staycationers (49,000) dropped by 31.4 percent.
Guests; average length of stay fell by 0.2 night year on year to 1.6 nights.
The total number of available guestrooms rose by 0.7 percent to 39,000 in March. The guestrooms’ average occupancy rate grew by 46.3 percentage points year on year to 77.0 percent.
In the first quarter, the number of guests soared by 96.3 percent year on year to 2.69 million.
