Macau's gross gaming revenue (GGR) from games of chance in April rose 449.9 percent year on year to 14.7 billion patacas (US$1.82 billion), the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) has announced today.

Last month's GGR was the highest since January 2020. Macau recorded its first COVID-19 on January 22 in that year. The government began to gradually ease coronavirus-related entry curbs early this year.

April's growth was one of the highest year-on-year GGR increases on record. In April 2021, GGR leaped 1,014 percent.

Last month's GGR grew 15.5 percent month on month. April included the traditional Qingming Festival, a public holiday in the whole of China.

In the first four months of this year, GGR rose 141.4 percent to 49.3 billion patacas, exceeding the GGR of 42.19 billion patacas for the whole of last year by nearly 17 percent.

Macau's six gaming concessionaires (Galaxy, Sands, SJM, MGM, Melco and Wynn) run a total of 30 casinos.

Baccarat is local casinos' most popular game of chance, generating 83.9 percent of GGR in the first quarter of this year, according to DICJ data.
