The Macau International Airport (MIA) said in a statement yesterday that its traffic volume was around 65,888 passengers and 572 aircraft movements throughout the Labour Day holiday, which began last Saturday and ended on Wednesday.
The statement noted that, on average, the airport handled around 114 flights and 13,178 passengers per day during the five-day holiday period. Compared to the traffic statistics for the May Day Holiday in 2019, the statement pointed out that aircraft movements have recovered by 53 percent, while passenger numbers recovered around 50 percent.
Concerning the passenger statistics throughout the five-day holiday, passengers on the mainland China routes accounted for 66 percent of the total passenger volume, while passengers on the Taiwan route accounted for 10 percent. Moreover, passengers on the Southeast Asia routes accounted for the remaining 24 percent.
The airport is also launching new routes in the runup to summer. Last month, the statement noted, Jin Air from South Korea resumed its route between Macau and Seoul, while Cebu Pacific resumed its routes to the Philippines. Moreover, Tigerair Taiwan will resume routes to the Chinese island in July.
The statement added that the local airport is also coordinating the resumption of flights to destinations in the mainland and the expansion of the Southeast Asian aviation market.
