Sports Bureau (ID) President Pun Weng Kun told reporters on Saturday that in order to celebrate a new milestone – this year’s Macau Grand Prix (MGP) marking its 70th anniversary – a number of races will be held over two weekends, on November 11-12 and November 16-19.

Pun made the remarks on the sidelines of the two-day 70th Macau Grand Prix - Family Carnival at the karting track in Coloane.

According to Pun, the FIA Formula 3 World Cup, FIA GT World Cup and other world-class races will soon be scheduled, but the specific details are still to be discussed.

Other races will also be held for drivers and riders from Macau, Hong Kong and the mainland to participate in the upcoming Grand Prix, Pun said.

As for the Macau Motorcycle Grand Prix, Pun underlined that no motorcycle rookie race will be considered for the time being.

The bureau expects to announce the arrangement for the two-weekend races, as well as the schedule of the Guia Circuit Fun Run before the summer holiday, Pun noted.

Pun said he believed that this year’s races, coupled with the stabilisation of the COVID-19 pandemic and the cancellation of travel restrictions, will attract more tourists to Macau to watch the races, with 15,000 seats expected to be available, adding that on-site ticket sales will be set up according to the situation so that more residents and tourists can participate and “feel the charm of motorsports”.

Meanwhile, yesterday afternoon’s MGP family carnival was cancelled due to weather conditions.
