The Pharmaceutical Supervision and Administration Bureau (ISAF) said in a statement on Friday that Batch No. 22D00 2022-026 of the anti-gout drug “Willipo Allopurinol Tablets 300mg”, produced by Taiwan-based YCP Yuanchou Chemical and Pharmaceutical Company Limited, has been recalled from the local market.

According to the statement, since the problematic product was detected by the Hong Kong Department of Health as having an unsatisfactory dissolution capacity which may affect the drug efficacy, the Hong Kong licensed pharmaceutical wholesaler of the drug voluntarily recalled the product from the market.

The bureau urged local pharmacies to stop selling it, the statement said, adding that the pharmacies have been notified by their respective drug importers to recall the product from their customers.

The product, which contains allopurinol, is a prescription synthetic drug used to treat hyperuricemia and gout, the statement noted.

The statement stressed that the bureau has paid close attention to the matter, adding that residents who obtain the medicine from pharmacies in their neighbourhoods may consult their attending physician or pharmacist for “proper handling of the drug”.

Enquiries can be made by calling 8598 3533 during office hours.
