Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa hosted yesterday a working lunch for visiting Chinese Vice President Han Zheng at Belém Palace, the official residence of Portugal’s head of state, in Lisbon.

According to a brief statement by the Office of the President of the Portuguese Republic, the working lunch took place after a meeting between Han and Rebelo de Sousa.

The statement said that the lunch covered both bilateral matters, such as trade and investment between the two countries, as well as current matters of international relations.

Portugal’s Lusa News Agency earlier yesterday quoted a statement by the presidential office as saying that the working lunch “aimed to continue deepening the excellent relations between the two countries.”

The working lunch was attended, among others, by Portuguese Foreign Minister João Cravinho.

According to Portuguese media reports, Han arrived in Portugal on Sunday after attending the coronation of King Charles III in London on Saturday.

Han’s visit to Portugal is slated to end tomorrow, after which he will visit the Netherlands, Xinhua reported last week.

Han, 69, an economist by profession,  is a former first vice-premier of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) and a former mayor and Communist Party of China (CPC) chief of Shanghai.
