Students from the Macao Institute for Tourism Studies (IFTM) have recently developed smart tourism concepts for Sustaincia, a Macau-based consortium of high-tech enterprises, the tertiary education institution said in a statement yesterday.
Guided by their mentor Fernando Lourenço, the statement noted that the students identified and learnt about existing applications of smart technologies worldwide to know more about the industry’s current level of application. The students studied scientific papers on smart tourism technology to find valuable research on consumers and tourists’ behavioural and attitudinal responses to its use, the statement said, and gain an understanding of the field.
The statement added that nearly 100 tourists were also interviewed on their perception of smart tourism technologies.
According to the statement, the data showed that attitudes towards smart tourism technologies are generally positive and “perceived to bring convenience, provide a higher quality of service and experience, create efficiency in the operations, and an innovative trend that is growing in the industry.
The research and concepts were presented at Lisboeta’s H853 Fun Factory in Cotai with Sustaincia’s representatives, the statement noted. Its co-founder Terence Lee (李灝東) said that there are numerous novel and useful solutions worth following up in the future, according to the statement.
