Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Leng Kam Lon said in a regular press conference yesterday that in the past five days seven local and mainland residents have separately fallen for a concert ticket scam and separately lost a total of over 260,000 patacas, with the highest loss of HK$ 227,000.
According to Leng, the victims transferred a deposit to the seller online to purchase concert tickets in Macau but lost contact with the scammer after they did not receive the tickets.
One local victim contacted a seller from whom he had previously successfully purchased concert tickets online for another concert this month. The victim told several friends about the ticket purchase and transferred a total of HK$ 227,000 to the seller, who claimed that the tickets would be delivered one to two weeks before the concert.
Later, the seller kept delaying delivery and eventually claimed that the concert was sold out, and promised to arrange a “refund” in June or July. The victim realised that he had been scammed and reported the case to the police.
