MGM’s Bar Patuá to present malt cocktails by master mixologists

Bar Patuá at MGM COTAI will present “Double Twists: Lorenzo Coppola x Paul Zhang”, a four-hands malt cocktail pop-up that features two renowned mixologists for a two-night-only exclusive cocktail experience from May 26-27, gaming resort operator MGM said in a statement yesterday.

Bar Patuá is named after the highly endangered Portuguese-Asian Creole of the Macanese community that fuses Chinese, Portuguese, Malay, Sinhalese and other Asian vocabulary and grammar.

The statement noted that the featured master mixologists are Creative Bar Director of Aqua Restaurant Group, Italian-born Lorenzo Coppola, and Bar Patuá manager Paul Zhang. Both will present a line-up of cocktails crafted with classic whisky labels The Glenrothes and Highland Park.

Coppola started his bartending journey at the tender age of 17 and has built a strong portfolio with recognition from global businesses such as Zuma Rome and Hong Kong, according to the statement. He currently oversees the entirety of the Aqua Restaurant Group bars.

Meanwhile, the statement said that Zhang, who is from the northern port city of Tianjin, has helmed Bar Patuá since 2020. The statement noted that he’s the champion of the Global Bartending Competition and has led different bar and lounge teams for numerous international five-star entities. He integrates both his expertise in mixology and tea art to create “one-of-a-kind cocktails that tell the tales of [mainland] China and Macau”

Both master mixologists create a blend of East and West with four original whisky-based cocktails exclusively created for the event, the statement said. With the Glenrothes 12-Year-Old single malt, Coppola created Glenrothes Colada, “a playful and lush twist of the tropical classic”, while Zhang created Golden Embrace to “highlight the depth of the vanilla and cinnamon taste notes of the whisky with warm spices and more”, according to the statement.

Moreover, with the Highland Park 12-Year-Old single malt, Coppola and Zhang crafted Highland Park Highball and Black Tea Manhattan.

At 180 patacas per glass, the Glenrothes 12-Year-Old and Highland Park 12-Year-Old will be served by the mixologists on May 26 and 27 respectively.
