A local man has been arrested for drunk driving and crashing into the railings and wall inside a carpark of a hotel in Nape before driving away, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Cheong Heon Fan said during a regular press conference on Monday.

The 62-year-old suspect surnamed Che told the police that he’s a businessman.

According to Cheong, the police received a report from a resident that a traffic accident had occurred near Alameda Doutor Carlos d’Assumpção in the wee hours of Saturday. When the officers arrived in the area, they found that Che had moved the car to the road near the carpark, the front and rear of the car were damaged, and Che was reeking of alcohol. A breathalyser test showed that his alcohol concentration was 1.51 grammes per litre of blood.

Under questioning, Che admitted that he had been drinking alcohol during dinner. He told the police that when he was leaving the hotel’s carpark, he lost control of his car and crashed into the railings and wall, and drove away without reporting the incident. Cheong said that Che’s car then broke down near Alameda Doutor Carlos d’Assumpção, and a passerby thought that a car accident had occurred and reported the case to the police.

Che has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing charges of drunk-driving and evading responsibility, Cheong said.
