The zebra crossing at the junction of Avenida do Infante D. Henrique (殷皇子大馬路) and Rua da Escola Comercial (商業學校街), i.e., the one between the Grand Lisboa hotel-casino tower and the private Portuguese School, will be replaced by a traffic light-controlled crossing from tomorrow, with the aim of ensuring the safety of pedestrians, the Transport Bureau (DSAT) has announced.
The traffic light-controlled crossing will come into use tomorrow morning.
With the operation of the traffic lights at the junction, a DSAT statement on Friday noted, the bureau will closely monitor the latest traffic situation there, before making possible adjustments to the signal timing, with the aim of “reasonably” allocating the duration of the passage of both vehicles and pedestrians.
With the post-COVID-19 gradual recovery of Macau’s tourism sector, the zebra crossing has become busier and busier since early this year.
This undated handout photo released by the Transport Bureau (DSAT) on Friday shows pedestrians walking across the zebra crossing with the newly installed traffic lights (still covered) between the Grand Lisboa hotel-casino tower and the private Portuguese School.
