A local man and two local women have separately been led to believe that their yuu reward points were expiring, while their credit cards were charged with amounts ranging from HK$20,000 to 40,000 after they provided their personal and credit-card information to the fraudsters, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Lou Chan Fai said in a regular press conference on Monday.

yuu is a Singapore based Rewards Club that according to its website, “brings together all the brands you love into one universal app and helps you earn every time you shop”.

The three victims are aged between 34 and 49.

According to Lou, the victims received the SMS messages on Saturday which reminded them that their yuu reward points were expiring. The messages also showed a link leading to a website to redeem gifts, leading them to enter their credit card information and verification codes.

The next day, the victims received text messages indicating that their credit cards had been used for unknown purchases. They called their banks to enquire right away and froze their credit cards, after which they reported the case to the police.
