The Macau Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) held the “Experts Talks on 2023 World Food Safety Day and Food Safety” yesterday, which was attended by over 400 representatives from the local food sector, related associations, academic institutions and government departments, according to an IAM statement.
The event, according to the statement, was held to promote “technical exchanges and cooperative development” between Macau, the mainland and Hong Kong in the area of food safety, and invited representatives from food safety supervision authorities from the three areas to deliver keynote speeches, with the talks held in the morning and in the afternoon.
The statement noted that the morning talks were mainly for the F&B sector and related chamber of commerce representatives. The statement said Xu Jin, deputy director of the Risk Assessment Office I of the China National Centre for Food Safety Risk Assessment first delivered a keynote speech titled “The Latest Intelligent Rapid Screening and Detection Technologies Developed by the Mainland and Related Food Safety Standards”.
Guangdong Institute of Food Inspection Deputy Director Lei Yi then spoke on the work and vision of the food markets integration process in the Greater Bay Area (GBA). The Centre for Food Safety of Hong Kong’s Food and Environmental Hygiene Department consultant, Yeung Tze Kiu, introduced the difficulties and challenges Hong Kong experienced when “formulating, implementing and promoting food safety standards”, according to the statement.
The talks in the afternoon, meanwhile, were mainly held for the general public as well as association and academic institution representatives.
Associate Researcher at the Standards Office I of the China National Centre for Food Safety Risk Assessment (CFSA) Yu Hangyu introduced the setting-up and progress of the national food safety standard system for participants to understand the latest developments in the mainland’s food safety standards.
IAM’s Department of Food Safety Head Cheong Kuai Tat spoke about “How to Correctly Understand Macau’s Food Safety Standards”.
