The five-day “Macao Week in Shandong•Qingdao”, the first Macao Week event of this year, garnered over 200,000 on-site visitors and more than 130 million live views online, according to a statement from the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) on Tuesday.

Qingdao (“Green Island”) lies around 1,680 kilometres northeast of Macau and has a population of about nine million.

The event also had over 38.747 million page views and post shares for related hashtags.

The statement noted that various Macau government entities, enterprises and businesses ran nearly 50 themed booths, showcasing different aspects of Macau’s “tourism+” at the Olympic Sailing Centre in the Southern District of Qingdao. The roadshow, meanwhile, had two dragon dance parades and 81 stage performances, including Macau singers who performed Chinese and Portuguese songs, as well as other performances each arranged by Macau’s six integrated resorts.

Meanwhile, participating tourism businesses presented over 43-million-yuan worth of special travel offers at the roadshow and on different platforms, according to the statement.

The statement added that an “extensive promotional campaign” was launched for the event through different online channels and on MGTO’s different social media accounts. Key opinion leaders (KOLs) also conducted 10 live streams, which garnered over 130 million live views throughout the event.

Moreover, the “Macao Destination Presentation Seminar” and the “Qingdao – Macao MICE, Trade and Investment Presentation Seminar” were also held, which had around 250 participants. Also debuted at the event was the gastronomic promotion “A Delicious Inheritance of Macanese Gastronomy” at Flavours Restaurant of Intercontinental Hotel Qingdao, jointly launched by MGTO, Wynn Macau, and Intercontinental Hotel Qingdao.

The next Macao Week events are slated to be held in Tianjin and Xiamen later this year, according to the statement.
