The Macau Post Daily interviewed Mabina Choi Leng Chi, captain of the local art organisation Big Mouse Kids Drama Group, earlier this month about its new musical called “The Praises of Cat Warrior’’, which was performed on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Sands Theatre in Nape.
The interview was published in The Macau Post Daily last Wednesday.
The musical follows the journey of a stray cat protagonist, who sets out to discover the true meaning of love – even for its adversaries – in order to safeguard its companions. Through this touching production, the creative team aims to raise awareness of the plight of stray animals and highlight our shared responsibility towards them.
In my opinion, the show boasts exceptional design, choreography, and direction. The storyline is linear but compelling, and much effort was put into crafting a witty and pun-filled script that elicited laughter from the audience. The vocals and music were also exceptionally entertaining. I was thoroughly impressed by the skills of the local performers, who seamlessly juggled singing, acting, and dancing throughout the performance. It amazed me that the actors could run around vigorously while still singing in tune and harmoniously.
The show culminated in a dramatic final act where the stray animals faced their seemingly unbeatable nemesis – ruthless humans. However, they were once again saved by another group of compassionate humans who represented the kindness and love that we are also capable of. The message from the creative team is clear: while humans create the plight of stray animals, we should also shoulder the shared responsibility of caring for them.Overall, “The Praises of Cat Warrior” was an artistic triumph in raising awareness of an important cause.
