Macau's 30 casinos run by six rival concessionaires generated gross gaming revenue (GGR) of 15.2 billion patacas (US$1.88 billion) in June, a year-on-year growth of 513.9 percent, the Gaming and Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) has announced today.

June was the gaming industry's second-best month so far this year, after May when GGR reached 15.56 billion patacas. Month-on-month, June's GGR declined by 2.3 percent.

Compared to pre-pandemic June 2019, last month's GGR was down by 36.1 percent.

Macau confirmed its first COVID-19 case in January 2020. The novel coronavirus pandemic severely impacted the local gaming sector for three years. Its gradual recovery began early this year.

GGR in the first half of this year grew by 205.1 percent year on year to 80.13 billion patacas.

According to the bureau's latest available data, baccarat accounted to 83.9 percent of local casinos' GGR in the first quarter of this year.
