Macau residents will receive their annual “wealth-sharing” cash handouts from tomorrow, according to a Finance Service Bureau’s (DSF) statement on Saturday.
According to the statement, 708,041 permanent residents will receive 10,000 patacas each and 35,347 non-permanent residents will get 6,000 patacas each, irrespective of place of birth, nationality, age, and current place of residence.
Permanent residency can be acquired after “habitually” living in Macau for seven consecutive years.
According to the statement, the handouts will be distributed in batches, either by bank transfer or by a crossed cheque which will be sent in the mail. Old-age subsidy beneficiaries will be among the first to receive the handouts from tomorrow. The last batch will be paid out from August 4.
The government has been paying the handouts out annually since 2008. The amounts of the handouts have been adjusted over the years.
In 2008 the original wealth sharing handout was 5,000 patacas for permanent residents and 3,000 patacas for non-permanent rises, having risen to the 10,000 patacas and 6,000 patacas respectively received now since 2019.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the past three years, the government’s cash handouts were issued in advance from April between 2020 and 2022, while in the past, cash sharing payments usually started in July.
