Two men from the mainland have been arrested for allegedly burgling two flats, PJ spokesman Chan Wun Man said during a special press conference yesterday.

The suspects are a 43-year-old surnamed Cui who told police that he’s jobless and a 37-year-old surnamed Li who told police that he is a construction worker. They entered Macau on Saturday night. Li has a criminal record of burglary in the mainland, Chan noted.

According to Chan, a man reported to the police on Sunday that earlier that day his flat on Rua do Almirante Costa Cabral had been burgled and approximately 9,700 patacas in cash had gone missing.

Another resident reported the same to the police on the same day, saying that upon waking up in their flat on Rua dos Artilheiros, they discovered the flat had been ransacked and upon reviewing the flat’s CCTV footage, saw two men enter and steal about 200 patacas in cash.

Chan noted that Public Security Police (PSP) officers nabbed the suspects on Monday night in a hotel room in Zape.

Under questioning, the duo admitted to burgling the flat on Rua do Almirante Costa Cabral but denied involvement in the other burglary. Chan added that the two men targeted units with unlocked doors and used a plastic card, double-sided adhesive tape, and scissors to gain entry.

The duo have been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing aggravated theft charges, Chan said.

Evidence seized from the two mainland suspects, such as bank notes, clothes, a pair of scissors and double sided adhesive tape is displayed during yesterday’s special press conference at the Judiciary Police (PJ) headquarters.
