The Orbis Raffle Charity Sale 2023, which ended on June 30, has raised 856,000 patacas for the non-profit non-governmental organisation’s (NGO) paediatric sight-saving programmes and sustainable training, according to an Orbis Macau statement yesterday.

Last year, the two-month long Charity Sale raised over 830,000 patacas.

The statement noted that the money raised also ensures that more children and adolescents living in low- and middle-income countries will have “access to quality eye care and be able to have a future of healthy sight”, while the annual raffle is also organised to draw attention to the importance of children and adolescent’s eye health.

The campaign’s Gifts Sponsors, according to the statement, provided 95 prizes for the Prize List, valued at over 425,000 patacas, of this year’s Lucky Draw, which was held last Wednesday by Orbis Macau’s Director of Development Isabel da Silva at the NGO’s Macau office.

The statement added that 95 winning raffle tickets and 20 back-up winning tickets have been drawn, with results now available on www.orbis.org/moraffle. The lucky draw event was witnessed by a Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ) representative, and volunteer accountant Sevina Leung.

The statement said that Orbis sincerely thanked all the parties that have helped promote the campaign and encouraged raffle sales, noting that the collective support has “brought a successful edition” of the Raffle Charity Sale which has helped expand the promotion level throughout Macau for the campaign and Orbis, as well as enabled a Charity Street Sale to be held in the peninsula and a pop-up set up in Taipa.

Meanwhile, the statement underlined that according to the World Health Organisation (WHO) there are 90 million children and adolescents living with vision loss, including two million who are blind. Moreover, 90 percent of them live in low- and middle-income countries where they are unable or have difficulty accessing the required eye care.

Orbis, according to the statement, works closely with its partners and volunteer faculty to deliver “much needed programmes and sustainable training to build capacity and enhance the technical skills of paediatric ophthalmic medical teams in these areas and improving the quality and accessibility of eye care in the long term”.

The statement noted that Orbis invites members of the public to learn more about their sight-saving work and extend their support by participating in its Charity Sales and promotional and fundraising activities, in addition to joining their monthly “giving programmes”, noting that no matter the amount, it will all add up to sustain Orbis’ sight-saving mission.
