The Macao Catholic Culture Association (ACCM) launched a new online video series titled “Cidade do Nome de Deus” – Macao‘s Catholic World Heritage on Friday, which aims to raise public awareness of the city’s “Catholic World Heritage” and the history behind it, according to an ACCM statement.

Denoting Macau, “Cidade do Nome de Deus” means “City of the Name of God”.

The series is sponsored by the Cultural Development Fund, the statement noted.

According to the statement, the first of eight episodes was officially premiered in the association’s headquarters on Rua Formosa, and featured the city’s most distinctive landmark, the Ruins of St. Paul’s. The statement noted that aside from being a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the carvings on the façade of the former “Church of the Mother of God” depict “important teachings from the Bible”.

The association invited World Heritage Sites of Macau Specialist Guide and the Macau Catholic Pilgrimage Service Association’s Executive Director Anna Leong (梁潤琼) to lead a virtual guided tour of the sites and present their histories and cultural traditions, the statement said.

Macau Catholic Diocese Bishop and ACCM Chairman Stephen Lee Bun Sang said in the statement that Catholicism has been in Macau for nearly 450 years and has formed a rich Catholic culture in the city.

According to Bishop Lee, through religious art, architecture and culture, people are inspired to search for the meaning of life, and truth, goodness and beauty in daily life.

The statement underlined that all the videos will have Chinese and English subtitles for local and international audiences. All will be released via the ACCM’s official social media channels such as Facebook, Instagram and YouTube.
