The Education and Youth Development Bureau (DSEDJ), along with the Association for Promotion of Science and Technology of Macau, China Association for Science and Technology, and the China Research Institute for Science Popularisation, will conduct a survey on locals’ science literacy from next Monday to August 5, according to a statement by the bureau yesterday.

The survey, which targets residents aged between 18 and 69, aims to gauge residents’ access to technology information and participation in science popularisation activities, as well as their attitudes towards science technologies, the statement said, adding that the findings of the survey will serve as a basis for formulating policies, and that all the personal data will be kept confidential.

During the survey period, the statement said, Macau Student Affairs Association members will work in pairs to visit residents from door to door to interview them at home, wearing blue and white uniforms with the logo of the bureau, carrying “Macau Public Science Literacy Survey” badges and Association for Promotion of Science and Technology of Macau bags.

The survey time every day will be between 1:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., and residents who have doubts can call 8590 2760 to check the interviewers’ information, the statement noted.

If there is no one at home on the day of the interview, they may access the survey’s online questionnaire system to complete the questionnaire according to the website address and login details on the notification leaflet that will be left at their home, the statement noted.

The statement stressed that those working for the survey will not take the initiative to obtain information from the public by telephone or email, especially important information such as ID card or bank account numbers, and the bureau urged residents to be vigilant to avoid being exploited by unscrupulous characters.
