The dance adaption of opera masterpiece ‘Carmen’ will be performed in two shows this week with each night featuring a different lead performer, offering the audience two different interpretations of the femme fatale in an intense and modern choreography.

The ‘Carmen’ that will be appear on stage at the Macau Cultural Centre (CCM) on Thursday and Friday is presented by the National Dance Company of Spain (CND).

While the original opera written by French composer Georges Bizet in 1875 is set in the southern Spanish city of Seville in 1830, CND’s ‘Carmen’ created by Swedish choreographer Johan Inger is set in the 1960’s and the story, filled with intense lust, jealousy and violence, is presented as if it is seen through a young boy’s eyes.
