Macao Water told reporters yesterday evening that it started working on repairing an underground tap water pipe which burst on Sunday in a section of Rua de Sacadura Cabral at 8 p.m. yesterday – coinciding with the lowering of the No. 8 typhoon signal which had been hoisted for 14 ½ hours.

The burst pipe had caused the temporary suspension of tap water supply to some households in the neighbourhood since Sunday night.

The No.8 typhoon signal was hoisted at 5:30 a.m. and lowered to the No.3 signal at 8 p.m. yesterday.

Macau’s water utility company also told reporters that it was aiming to complete the repair in six hours, because of which the repairs were scheduled to be completed at 2 a.m. today.

Due to the temporary suspension of the tap water supply after the pipe burst, people living in the nearby area had to go to water lorries provided by Macao Water to collect water yesterday, for household use such as cooking, flushing toilets or storing some potable water at home.

Macao Water said that its workers were conducting emergency repairs and had parked three water lorries nearby for residents to collect tap water.

Macao Water told TDM that it apologised for the inconvenience caused as the repair work was delayed by Typhoon Talim.
