Chief Executive Fernando Chui Sai On said yesterday that the government’s plan to build public housing on the plot of the abandoned La Scala luxury housing project in Taipa was not a “hasty” decision.
Chui said the decision aimed to tackle the city’s strong public housing demand.
Chui spoke to reporters at the airport, before departing on a working visit to Beijing for talks on the management of Macau’s coastal waters. Chui and his entourage will return to Macau tomorrow.
Earlier this week, several members of the government-appointed Urban Planning Council voiced disagreement with the government’s plan for a huge public housing project with a proposed height limit of up to 155 metres on the plot near the airport.
