The Public Works Bureau (DSOP) said in a statement yesterday that the topping-out of the ongoing high-rise housing project for senior citizens, which is being built in an area of Plot P in Areia Preta district, has been completed.
The project comprising two hotel-style apartment towers on a podium, which got off the ground in late 2020, was initially slated to be completed in November this year. However, according to the DSOP website, the project is now scheduled to be completed in January next year, after a delay caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The two buildings consisting exclusively of rental flats for seniors, the first of its kind in the government’s housing programme, will have a total of 1,815 studio flats. Various social service facilities will be set up on the podium levels of the rental housing towers.
Yesterday’s DSOP statement said that the topping-out of the towers was completed on July 7, after which a ceremony marking the topping-out was held on the project’s construction site yesterday.
The statement said that the constructors have now started the buildings’ internal decoration and external-wall cladding, as well as the installation of electromechanical systems.
Yesterday’s DSOP statement underlined that the project was now expected to be completed at the beginning of next year.
The government is planning that permanent local residents aged 65 or over who meet certain conditions will be able to apply to rent a flat there.
The rental housing project for seniors on Plot P was first proposed by Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng in early 2020, when he said that the project aimed to help senior citizens living in low-rise walk-ups improve their living quality.
Yesterday’s statement also pointed out that the project is the city’s first public project adopting the prefabrication construction approach.
The statement also noted that the rental housing for seniors on Plot P will have a three-storey underground public carpark and a podium garden.
