A 16-year-old girl died after falling into the sea yesterday, according to a statement from the Judiciary Police (PJ) yesterday.

According to the statement, the deceased was a 16-year-old female mainland resident.

The statement said that the Judiciary Police were notified by the public Conde de São Januário Hospital Centre at around 4:10 p.m. yesterday that a female, who had “fallen” into the coastal waters, was certified dead upon arrival at the hospital.

The statement quoted the Macau Customs Service (SA) as saying that a tourist had fallen into the sea earlier from a mainland sightseeing boat passing through Macau’s waters at 3:30 p.m. yesterday.

The statement quoted the SA as saying that the female passenger suspected to be missing was found floating in the sea near Ponte de Amizade in Macau.

The woman was immediately rescued by an SA speedboat and taken to the hospital by an ambulance, according to the statement.

Judiciary Police officers investigated the case on the tourist boat and reviewed the on-board CCTV footage and found no evidence of any conflict between the deceased and anyone else on board the boat before the incident.

There was no evidence that the deceased fell into the sea as a result of being pushed or hit by someone, the statement said, therefore, it was ruled out that the case involved a criminal offence, the statement added.

The statement pointed out that no suspicious injuries were found on the victim. The statement added that the exact cause of death could only be confirmed by forensic examination.

The case has preliminarily been classified as a dead-body-found case.
