According to a statement from the Judiciary Police (PJ) yesterday, a 29-year-old local woman was found dead in her flat near Rua do Rebanho in a suspected case of charcoal burning.

The statement noted that the woman had no signs of breathing or heartbeat when she was brought to the hospital. The statement concluded that the victim had committed suicide in her bedroom using a charcoal stove, and a suicide note was found at the scene.

No suspicious injuries were found on the body, and the exact cause of her death had yet to be confirmed by an official autopsy, the statement added.

Anyone with suicidal thoughts looking for assistance is urged to call the Caritas hotline 2852 5222 for Chinese-language speakers or 2852 5777 for English-language speakers, or the Social Welfare Bureau’s (IAS) 24-hour counselling hotline 2826 1126.
