A local man has been apprehended for stealing a smartphone he had found in the street, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Lam Keong said at a press conference yesterday.

The suspect surnamed Tai, who is in his forties, told the police that he’s a construction worker.

According to Lam, on May 11, a motorcyclist told the police that his phone, worth 10,000 patacas had fallen out of his pocket when he was riding along Avenida do Aeroporto earlier that day and he could not find it when he went back to look for it. Police officers later scrutinised CCTV footage and discovered that Tai had picked up the phone, and summoned him to a police station on Thursday. He admitted to stealing the phone.

Tai has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a theft-by-finding charge, Lam said.
