The Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) said in a statement on Friday that a delegation from the Science and Technology Development Fund’s (FDCT) Administrative Committee visited MPU’s campus in Zape on July 27.

The delegation was led by the FDCT Administrative Committee’s Acting President Cheang Kun Wai.

The statement noted that MPU Rector Im Sio Kei introduced the public university’s latest scientific research developments and its diversified education system for its undergraduate, master’s and doctoral students.

The university expressed gratitude for FDCT’s support, the statement said, adding that it hopes to deepen cooperation in the future, contributing to the Greater Bay Area’s (GBA) development and promoting the “1+4” appropriate economic diversification* and the interdisciplinary research collaboration in the GBA.

Cheang, according to the statement, recognised MPU’s academic and scientific research achievements, and praised the tertiary education institution for its rapid development with continuous expansion of the postgraduate programmes and improvement of scientific research levels in recent years. The statement added that Cheang invited the university to participate in the upcoming “Science and Technology Week 2023 and Exhibition of Achievements in Science and Technology Innovation”.

Moreover, the statement said, both parties exchanged views on industry-university-research matching projects and explored the future direction of Macau’s sci-tech sector.

The government’s 1+4 model aims to consolidate the development of the city’s tourism and leisure industry while putting special emphasis on promoting the development of four new key industries, namely 1) big health, 2) modern finance, 3) high-tech, and 4) conventions and exhibitions as well as culture and sport.
