Cantopop star Kelly Chen Wai-lam (陳慧琳), known as the “Diva of Asia”, will return to Macau to hold two concerts next month. The concert announcement was met with great enthusiasm, especially online, and fans have been giving her gifts ever since she arrived in Macau, Chen said during a press conference about the concerts at the Galaxy International Conference Centre (GICC) yesterday.

The concerts, titled “KELLY CHEN Season Two Macau Live”, will be held at the Galaxy Arena, which seats 16,000, on September 30 and October 1, according to GICC.

This makes it her second performance in the city since 2016.

Local, HK and mainland media representatives attended the conference to hear the singer’s plans for the concert.

When asked about Galaxy as her choice of venue rather than the Venetian, which has been the conventional choice for stars visiting Macau for almost two decades, Chen replied that she saw the stage in a video about the recent BlackPink concert at Galaxy, and had “fallen in love with it”.

At the press conference, the Cantopop star happily posed for the media. Chen announced that there would be “an abundance of fast-paced songs” and old songs rearranged by her producer, Mark Lui Chung-tak, telling her fans to expect “surprises and novelties” at the upcoming concert.

Chen also told the media that after two years of the COVID-19 pandemic, her body has been “itching” to move and resume her singing career, adding that she has been preparing her iconic dance moves to show to her audience ever since.

The concert will accommodate this “vision” by having more songs rearranged and reproduced into electronica, ensuring “a certain level of energy and dynamism” during her show, Chen noted.

Apart from featuring her greatest hits that have defined her career, Chen said that she will also be performing her new songs, which was “both her and her fans’ wish”, adding that for now she would “focus on her music career and concerts”, instead of her acting career and variety shows.

Regarding her brief visit to Macau for yesterday’s press conference, Chen said that she had tasted the “egg tart-filled egg waffles”, an “unknown delicacy” to her before it was gifted to her by her fans, and repeatedly expressed her appreciation for the foods and cuisine found in Macau.

According to Wikipedia, Kelly Chen (birth name Vivian Chen Wai-man) has had great success in the East Asian entertainment industry with nearly 20 million record sales involving 38 albums.
