The Judiciary Police (PJ) busted a 29-year-old Tanzanian man on Wednesday in the San Kio district for manufacturing and selling crack cocaine, PJ spokesman Chan Wun Man said during a special press conference yesterday, adding that PJ officers seized six packets of cocaine weighing 29.37 grams and six packs of crack cocaine weighing 1.88 grams in the operation, totalling an estimated street value of about 300,000 patacas.

According to Chan, upon receiving intelligence about a week ago that an African national was selling drugs at nightclubs in the city centre, the Judiciary Police put the jobless suspect surnamed Cooley under surveillance.

PJ officers intercepted Cooley outside a residential building in the San Kio district at about 9 p.m. on Wednesday and later searched his home, in the same area, which was rented by his friend who had left Macau. When raiding the flat, the officers discovered that Cooley had processed cocaine into crack cocaine with baking powder and water at home before going out to sell it.

Cooley, who admitted to producing and selling crack cocaine in Macau, insisted that he bought the cocaine from an unnamed African national, claiming that each gram of cocaine could be processed to obtain three to four times the amount of crack cocaine and each gram could be sold for 3,300 patacas, according to Chan.

Cooley tested negative for drugs, he added.

Cooley, who entered Macau on July 25, was transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) yesterday, facing a drug trafficking charge, Chan noted.

The Judiciary Police are continuing their investigation in an attempt to trace the origin of the drugs and other possible suspects.
