An off-duty firefighter knocked over 18 motorcycles in a roadside parking space when he was driving his car along Estrada do Repouso, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Lam Keong said at a regular press conference on Friday, adding that the local man in his thirties had a blood alcohol level of 1.35 grams per litre when being breathalysed.
Lam added that the suspect surnamed Ng, who had abandoned the car with a damaged front passenger side and left the scene without reporting the accident to the police, was arrested nearby soon after the accident.
According to Lam, the accident was discovered by a police officer at about 6:15 a.m. on Thursday when he found 18 motorbikes lying on their sides in a roadside parking area near Hou Kong Kindergarten on Estrada do Repouso, and a damaged car was soon discovered outside a nearby convenience store.
During the follow-up investigation, Lam said, PSP officers intercepted Ng who reeked of alcohol and lingered near the damaged car. Lam added that under questioning, Ng admitted that he had driven his car in that road and had had a traffic accident there.
Ng has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing charges of drunk-driving and hide-and-run.
