MTel Telecommunications, one of the city’s providers of digital communication services has enjoyed a steady growth in its cloud services, with an increasing number of servers and a consistent customer base of approximately 8,000 to 9,000 internet users, MTel Chairman and CEO Michael Choi Tak Meng told reporters yesterday.
Choi briefed the media on the company’s progress and its plans for the future on the sidelines of yesterday’s MTel press conference at The Plaza Restaurant in Zape.
According to Choi, the company’s internet customer base has remained stable, with the numbers comparable to the previous period. Moreover, MTel has witnessed substantial growth in its line and cloud services, increasing the number of servers from a mere 10 to over 40. “This growth indicates a robust demand for these services among consumers and businesses alike,” Choi said.
Discussing the challenges of expanding the company’s internet customer base, Choi explained that most existing internet users already have long-standing service providers making it difficult for them to switch to MTel. However, Choi emphasised that future internet installations in the Zone A land reclamation zone, which will be part of a large-scale residential development, would be handled by construction companies.
The zone’s new building infrastructure would facilitate easier switching between service providers, similar to the situation in mainland China’s residential communities, Choi pointed out, adding that this change will grant customers the freedom to compare and choose their preferred service operators without the need for reinstalling lines.
Choi also said MTel has already submitted its plans to adopt this approach in the Macao New Neighbourhood (MNN) in Hengqin, demonstrating its commitment to providing a seamless experience for customers.
Furthermore, MTel announced the introduction of its innovative Government-Enterprise Cloud Communication service during yesterday’s press conference.
This initiative, according to Choi, aims to provide tailored digital communication solutions to cater to the unique needs of both government and business clients. By offering customised services, the company intends to enhance efficiency and improve communication capabilities for its clients, he said.
